History
Raul Wunderlich, a passionate surfer who has been riding the waves since the early 80s. His love for surfing began as a teenager on the sands of the beach in his hometown in São Francisco do Sul, Santa Catarina, Brazil. However, Raul quickly realized the scarcity of quality technical materials and decided to make his own surfboards in the garage of his home in Joinville, initially for himself and later for his friends.
What started as a simple hobby quickly turned into something serious, leading Raul to co-found Atlântico Sul with a friend. Thanks to their hard work and dedication, the brand grew quickly in the state of Santa Catarina. Raul's skill in creating and shaping surfboards allowed him to develop a team of professionals and amateurs who competed regularly in ANOCAS, the state surfing association, producing some of Brazil's most prominent surfers, such as the Padaratz brothers.
In the early 90s, Raul felt the need to look for new challenges and decided to cross the Atlantic. After traveling through Europe, he landed in Portugal, where he discovered a small surfing industry. He then decided to stay in Portugal, got married and had a daughter. He created his own brand, RW Shape Designs, where he experimented with his ideas, transformed his dreams into shapes and worked in parallel with other surfboard brands such as Take Off, Impacto, Phynix Surfboards, Billyboy Surfboards and Koala Surfboards.
Since 2011, Raul has worked as a back shaper for several brands and projects. Through these partnerships, he have been able to work on a diverse range of surfboard shapes and models, including high-performance competition boards, progressive longboards, as well as SUP and Kite Surf models.
In 2019, joins the DEZ Surfboards project, with the aim that all DEZ boards will give you the maximum score, before you even enter the water. Because 10, more than the perfect wave, represents a different way of looking at surfing and life in general. We don't want you to be the best, we want you to feel good in the water.
